Love to Love My Disco Anthems

At this point, it should come as no surprise that disco anthems are some of favorite songs and biggest inspirations.

Ever since I was kid, and I listened to my parents’ Donna Summer and Saturday Night Fever records, I fell in love with the disco era. There is something so sanguine and optimistic about the these melodies that make them infallible to me.

In fact, many of these songs were played at the birthday and anniversary parties my parents would host when I was a kid. I remember being six or seven years old and dancing my ass off to Bee Gees in the middle of the dance floor right along side of them.

I can only imagine what it was like to grow up in New York when these songs were playing in the night clubs!

So for this week’s Music Monday playlist, I pulled some tracks out of my parents’ songbook to capture that disco fever. The set list includes some of their favorite artists like the Bee Gees, CHIC, and ABBA, and a few newer favorites of my own, like Madonna, Kanye, and Beyoncé.

“I Feel Love” by Donna Summer

“You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)” by Sylvester

“I Want Your Love” by CHIC

“Everything Now” by Arcade Fire

“Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)” by ABBA

“Beat Goes On – feat. Kanye West” by Madonna, Kanye West

“Should Be Dancing” by Bee Gees

“Don’t Leave Me This Way” by Thelma Houston

“Blow” by Beyoncé

“Take Me Home” by Cher
