Every year on Thanksgiving, after serving meals to the community at the church, my family retires to my parents’ house for an early turkey dinner.
Unlike most of America, we aren’t a family who watches the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade or plays football in the yard. Instead, we prefer to argue over napkin selections and who wore shoes in the house.
But one thing on which we do agree is that Christmas music should never be played until after the meal is cleared.
Now, this becomes a bit of a challenge for those of us who have not been listening to Mariah Carey on repeat for the last four weeks straight because let’s face it: no one writes Thanksgiving songs.
But in the spirit of togetherness and nostalgia, I was inspired to create this week’s playlist with the classics in mind. Afterall, what is more American than the Great American Songbook?
